I wanted a larger interactive area to play with and a couple different options than the original Flippy Flappy from Lawn Fawn so I did some digging! There were a few videos, but this one gave me the best info for what I wanted to do!
I have made some tutorial photos for a quick reference for me (so I don't need to watch the video every time) and thought I would share. I also tried a couple other internal options to have a different flip out effect.
The outside shell/card base assembly is the same
Cut a 9-3/4" x 5-1/4" piece of cardstock
Score 5-1/2" (of the long dimension)
Rotate 90 degrees
Score 1/2" from each side (in from the short dimension)
PARTIAL CUT on the larger half of the scored area only... along the 1/2" score, but shift the cut inwards 1/16" (so your flaps will fold over neater later) only on the longer side from the scoring.
When you get to the off-center score line, cut straight to the edge.
Then trim an angle off from the scored line to the edge
You should now have two small flaps on the other end of the panel. (When we are ready, we will fold the piece in half and then fold over the flaps, but we need the inside!)
Original from video, Option 1: fun pull out flap with a popup center piece
For this flap option, you need to cut 3-3/4" x 10" flap piece
Score along the long dimension at 4-3/4", 5-1/2", and 6-1/4"
Fold these score lines up and down and up to make a mountain fold
Flip over to the back side of the mountain to glue it together shut
Then this whole assembly folds down, pop-up piece inside, shorter piece on top
A 2-1/4"x2-1/4" piece of plastic (use plastic packaging or plastic envelope sleeve) and use 1/4" scortape at the top and bottom of the plastic
Adhere the plastic- using the top scortape strip only- on top of the folded panel, centered at the top of the fold, right at the edge. LEAVE the bottom scortape so we can use it to adhere the pullout flap to the cardbase assembly
Option 2: no popup center piece mountain fold
Cut a pull out panel 3-3/4" x 8-1/2"
Score at 4-3/4"
Fold in half with the shorter side on top
Same as Option 1, get a 2-1/4"x2-1/4" piece of plastic (use plastic packaging or plastic envelope sleeve) and use 1/4" scortape at the top and bottom of the plastic
Adhere the plastic- using the top scortape strip only- on top of the folded panel, centered at the top of the fold, right at the edge. LEAVE the bottom scortape so we can use it to adhere the pullout flap to the cardbase assembly
Option 3: no top flap - more like the Lawn Fawn Flippy Flappy
Cut a 3-3/4" x 6"
Score at 4-3/4" and 5-1/2"
Fold down at the 4-3/4" score, apply glue and fold the 5-1/2" back on itself to make a sturdy flap
Option 3B
For a shallower, less obtrusive flap and a little more like Lawn Fawn,
1. Take Option 3's pull out panel and just fold each of the scored sections in half
create 2 mountain folds and glue them both shut from the back like the single mt fold from option 1.
2. Adhere your item to popup in between the two mountains. If using acetate, be sure to use scortape.
Assembly: the same for any pullout option
Take your pull out panel you want to use
Fold the plastic square up (burnish the fold so its flat)
Take your card base assembly and place the pull tab inside with the smaller top flap open up.
Lower the popup panel to line up so that the bottom edge of the folded up plastic on the popup panel is just barely hidden when you close down the top flap of the card base assembly.
Lift the top of the card base assembly again, but be careful not to move your panel/plastic. Peel off the piece of scortape and close the card base assembly.
Flip over the assembly
Wrap the flaps around the back
TEST THE MECHANISM haha before it's too late!
OK then glue down the flaps on the back of the cardbase assembly
and DECORATE! Front takes 4x4 and smaller, insides: top takes 3-5/8"x3-5/8"and smaller, with bottom (option 1 and 2) 3-5/8 x 4-5/8 or for fully hidden decorative panel or Option 3, its the same as the top, 3-5/8"x3-5/8"
