Home Decor - Monday Challenge at Simon Says Stamp

Updated: Jan 24, 2020

Today I am participating in the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge.

Theme this week is

So I was going to try to participate last week in the Floral challenge, but I got sidetracked trying to teach myself how to make a flower using alcohol inks!

The results were great when i did a large piece, but when i tried to make a card sized page, well it didnt end how i would like!

BUT! this helps me out this week since now i have a home decor piece to post for next Monday's Home Decor Monday Challenge. I'm planning on finding or making a nice frame for it soon!

Techniques or tips and tricks

  • Well first off, i highly recommend you listen to my friend better than i did and go get some nice glossy tiles from Home Depot and start practicing on those first! Then move up to the expensive Yupo paper after you're happy with your skills ;-)

  • also, now that i know better, side view flowers are harder! haha. its better to try to do a top view and let your color go every direction to make the flower.

  • Be careful with the straw, i'm only using one since i dont want to invest too much before i am sure i want to do this a lot. The new hand squeezer from Tim Holtz is likely safer for fumes haha, or a compressed air can (could be costly long-term) but long-term you might want to get a little compressor for the craft desk. I bought one, but it was not powerful enough and meant to blow light bits of makeup.... i'll let you know if i find a better one!

  • The video i watched swapped between the alcohol and the blending solution to get different looks. Its good to play with this on tiles. Also, she didnt just drop the alcohol ink on the paper and then blow it, she would arc it across in the direction she wanted to with the tip of the tube then blow from there. Lots of different ways to try!
