Hello! Guess what???? I have the honored opportunity to be a guest designer for Kindred Stamps for the August 2022 release! EXCITING!!!!! Below are some of my creations with the new set AK! on sale Friday August 26th at 8am PST. DONT MISS IT! They sell out fast!

Sentiments on this set are ADORABLE if you know the references.

  • AK! - a must

  • LOVE YOU TO MARS & BACK - hehe - I mean we are all tired of the same ol "to the moon and back" right!?!?

  • YOU'RE OLD - obviously must use with "AK!" in front haha

  • IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE - oh look another opportunity to put "AK!" in front haha, especially if its a belated celebration haha or... a "_0" bday ! My 40 is just around the corner!

  • GREETINGS EARTHLINGS - I mean, its kinda a must with aliens haha

ok.... so the CARDS!!!!

lets start simple, then work our way up?

I love using designer papers (Kindred has some nice quality paper) and some dies. I love the TV TIME die from Kindred Stamps. Is your card inspired by an old TV show, a movie or something you can envision on TV? This die is a MUST! Also love the retro look. The green paper is from Kindred's Showtime Paper Pack.

I had some glitter cardstock from my stash to give it a "we are invading" static behind the alien. Love this simple look!

OK lets have a little crafty fun.... have you ever made a galaxy background? I have a tutorial HERE: "Space the Final Frontier" on how I made some fun galaxy backgrounds to have on hand for these cards. So much fun using some water-based inks smooshed with Black Soot distress oxide ink in many layers and then splattered with water and white acrylic ink with a hint of sparkle!

Using a scrap of this paper I used for another card, I peek-a-booed the galaxy through the stars cut out of some plain white background using the Kindred Stamps Card Basics Dies.

Next up I used the galaxy backgrounds for some shaker cards. SO MUCH FUN! I LOVE SHAKERS! The previous card using the stars could have also been popped up on the back and made into a shaker through the stars! Crud... opportunity wasted... sigh... NEXT TIME!

So on to these shakers. First one I made a frame using the Kindred Stamps Card Basics Dies circles. Glow-in-the-dark and other fun shaker bits from my stash make this card so much fun! Notice the white star accents? hmmm... looks like those fit in the holes left from the other card... hmm... USE YOUR LEFTOVERS! hah!

Now this card, I found a fun wonky scallop die in my stash and used it for the large frame for this shaker card. Same shaker bits (why change a good GLOW IN THE DARK thing?) hah.

Ok now.... we made some fun backgrounds and even made a simple interactive shaker.... lets step it up ONE MORE NOTCH to full on interactive. How about a spinner? Ever since I saw the "Love you to Mars & back" I wanted to have a card where the alien is spinning in space going between Mars and Earth. Here's what I ended up with! These are also sometimes called a slider card as well.

I used a curved cut out from the Galactic paper pack for planets, embossed the sentiment and a few "AK" s on the background. Then I used a track die from my stash and put the alien on a penny/dimensional/penny sandwich (hidden behind the track) and popped up on a dimensional on the top part of the track. Now he spins both directions to my red planet and my green/blue planet! We use a penny technique because the weight of the pennies will help the object slide and spin easily.

Tips:

  • Don't forget to leave enough room between the track and the dimensional foam so there is room for the penny to move.

  • try to match the thickness of your penny sandwich (foam popdot) to the thickness of your mounting foam for the cardbase so your slider doesn't stick too high up above the card or not high enough and doesn't slide well.

  • If you don't like to see the card base through the track hole, you can either glue down the cutout behind, or if you want to guarantee maximum movement (i was worried since my cutout was thicker watercolor paper) then you can mark up the background to match. I rubbed on some coordinating distress oxides and the fave them a spritz to match the cardfront look. Good 'nuf!!

  • If you're using a black base, color your edges of your white foam with black copic ;-)

  • TEST everything at every step before you stick it down! :-)

Here's a video with the technique I used : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUnR7dXLrJg You can either use a punch as in the video or there are several companies that sell slider track dies like the one I used. There's also circular foam dots available from many companies to use for this. I used two stuck together so there was enough sliding movement. I also used double-sided tape to stick my alien to the penny. DONT use liquid glue, it will come right off :-)

I hope you enjoyed my cards! I had so much fun making them! Don't forget to check out my Instagram @chevy.scott ! Also, there's more than just this stamp set being released! Check out the Kindred Stamps blog for more in the release this week!
