It's time again! Happy release week!
Today I'm sharing Cup of Cheer coupled with Merry and Bright paper pack.
For my first card, I loved "Mugs and Kisses" and couldn't resist having this cute couple and showcase some of my favorite papers in this new paper pack!
For my 2nd card, I loved the sentiment "Snow is falling, Hot coco is calling" and I envisioned sitting at the table with a good cup of chocolate looking out the window watching the snow. Here's what I ended up with!
I used the Stage Curtain Craft Dies with the Merry and Bright paper pack. The pink on white popped a little too much on my card, so I ink blended some Kitsch Flamingo on it and it softened it right up!
I blended the edges of my card base with Twisted Citron and then trimmed another page of the paper pack for a fun table cloth look.
The sentiment is embossed in gold on a piece of vellum.
Shaker was made with the Card Builder Basics square then die cut smaller squares from my stash to make a window frame.
OK last and surely NOT LEAST is a fun Double Slider style card I made with two mugs clinking for "Warm Winter Wishes". Background paper is from the Merry and Bright paper pack. Here's it in action!
When you pull the pull tab, there is a plastic bag in a loop that pulls the front section (attached on the left) to the right and then the back side of the loop of plastic then continues to the left, pulling the right-side character to the left. That's how you move two images opposite directions with one pull tab. Lots of videos out there on how to do Double Sliders, so here are some helpful screen shots if you need some!
First, get an idea of your card layout. Then, mark where you need movement tracks to be in the card panel. I knew I wanted the movement to hide behind the cups, so I arranged them clinking and marked the paper behind it where the nose is. Then I moved over at the same level to the outside edge of the cup. It doesn't need a long track since both cups are moving - they split the distance :-). **one thing I forgot to do till later was to decide on the dollop and hat/marshmallows that go on top of the cups. You want to be sure they don't block your sentiment in either position. I GOT LUCKY ;-) ** so check that here!
I then used the track from the Pull and Slide Die with PARTIAL die cutting to make a small track. If you're not familiar with partial cuts, you simply leave part of the die OUTSIDE the plate so it doesn't cut there. I created a rounded edge and track, then trimmed the end off with my scissors. I lined up the track die with my dots, then used some temp tape to mark where the track needed to stop, placed on top of the marks and then partial die cut it.
I made a pull tab with scrap paper from the paper pack, cut out the pull tab inset below where the characters go since I plan on using extender arms from the double slider and the pull tab can be anywhere. The double slider plastic will wrap around the designer paper, so I marked the track through the card front track so I new the dimensions of the plastic double slider track needed to be. You will need slightly more than DOUBLE the width of your double slider track width (with enough for it to wrap around the track and then be adhered together). Mine needs to be a 7.75" long strip. The package for this stamp set will work perfect if you don't have any plastic to use at home.
I ended up with a 1" partial die cut track width so I cut the plastic at 7.75" by 0.75" wide. I temp taped down my pull tab so I knew where I wanted the double slider track to be partially die cut. The pull tab will be adhered to the top of the plastic to be what rotates the plastic around the track right and left. I used a scrap strip of paper, 3/4" wide and trimmed to use as an extended arm to reach from the pull tab up to the left moving image (and a second one to reach from the back part of the plastic double slider up to the right moving image for later). I attached the extender arm with double-sided tape for a nice solid connection. I made sure the closed position pull tab with extender reached to the left-most track mark where the left cup will be. I like using a wider extender and longer so it extends past the track and doesn't create a catch point.
I used two pull tab guides to keep the pull tab stable - just be careful that you dont place them where the extender arm stops movement when it hits the guide. Placing the card front back on, you can see the left extender arm will be perfect for the left-most position of the left image. DONT glue down the pull tab dies yet since we still need to partially cut the double slider track.
Since the right image needs to move left, it will be moved by the back of the double slider. It needs to have a access hole for the extended tab on the back plastic loop to attach to move the cup. I traced the track on the right through to the patterned paper and partially die cut the same way. Now that I know where that hole is, I can make sure the double slider track is not overlapping.
Now if you're like me.... you realize you're about to glue things together and you forgot to stamp the sentiment on! haha. Hurry up and get that sentiment placed! I used pigment black ink and heat embossed with clear. Don't forget to use your embossing buddy/powder tool!
ALSO.... I forgot to do my ink blending so if you want to do that.... you should do it now haha. OR your card will end up with last minute edges only ink blending like mine! haha
Ok now you can adhere that pull tab in place. I trimmed the end off so my foam tape would fit at the edge of the card and also butt up to the tab so it forms a break for left movement (keeping the tab handle even with the edge of the card and not slip inside it). I also pulled the pull tab where it goes to the right and made sure to secure the guide on the left to where the extender arm forms a brake for that right movement. If you add any more supporting foam tape, just make sure it doesn't interfere with that pull tab or the extender arm movement.
Before we adhere this to the decorative paper we need to finish the double slider. Line up the thin track die and partial cut and trim on both ends of the double slider track for the plastic loop. Remember we don't want to overlap with the right image's hole and we want a partial die cut of about 1" (also so this track is hidden behind the top panel and doesn't hang out the bottom)
Now we take our 7.75" x 0.75" plastic and pass both ends from back to front so we can attach them together on the front LEFT side of the card so the seam doesn't get caught on anything when it moves. Always attach plastic to itself using double-sided tape. Now we can flip this over and attach the 2nd extender arm we cut earlier and adhere with double-sided tape to be located at the far end of the hole through for movement of that right cup. A thicker extender arm helps have a larger contact area for the tape to hold this together stronger. Now we can see both extender arms in their places and we are ready to do a quick test (pull the pulltab and make sure everything moves) before sticking it all down.
When using foam tape, to adhere the white top panel to the decorative paper, I love the trick from Jennifer McGuire where you pull a piece of the foam tape off a little and fold it down so it sticks out of the card base. Then you can place the top down on the bottom piece with only a little adhesive exposed and when you get it positioned, you just pull all the strips from their little pulltabs you made and they pull right out and your card sticks straight down where you had it!
OK now we can add the cups! (remember if you wanted to ink blend, yours should already be done :-) ) I used these awesome circle foam dots from Taylored Expressions. They squish for mailing with one stamp but also are super resilient and strong. Best I have found for mailing interactive cards! You can see I stuck them down in the OUTERMOST EDGES of the left and right tracks with the pull tab CLOSED. When you pull the pulltab out, they move to the inside of the track. yay! I want the clink to be perfect so I adhered the cups in this position. YAAAAAY! Push the pulltab back in and they pull apart! YES!!!
Alright now all that is remaining is to stick down this entire thing to an actual card haha. If you're not mailing this or you are using really thin foam tape, you will want to use foam tape again to connect this assembly to a card base so you ensure the plastic moves nicely on the back too and the extended arm on the back has plenty of room to move. Mine is already a little thick and I want to mail it so... I risked it and used double-sided tape just on the edges . **make sure you don't get the plastic slider stuck to your adhesive! It needs to move! Keep testing your pull tab to be sure you don't accidentally get it stuck somewhere along this assembly.
Remember to use that trick when peeling the paper off double-sided tape or foam to adhere a panel. Peel off a short part of one end and fold it out so it sticks out from the card edge. Place the panel and then pull them straight out and viola! Now if you were like me and forgot to ink blend... add some ink ! haha I also added some embellishments from the Magical Holiday Box. I also had you add the dollop and marshmallows/hat to the cups at the beginning haha. I just added them now and got lucky they didn't block my sentiment. I also used a white gel pen to add the iconic whit polka dots to the hairbow.
Are you still awake after all that ?!?! haha I hope you enjoy the rest of the release!
